SUBWAYS

Subway and train lines in The Bronx generally run north-south, and are the best option for getting to and from the other boroughs. The 4/5/6 trains travel to the east side of Manhattan, while the B/D/1/2 trains go to the west side. Subway and commuter rail maps are available from the station agent at most subway stations.

RAIL

Metro-North Railroad commuter trains run about once every half-hour on weekdays and about once per hour on weekends at most stations, providing easy access between Grand Central Terminal, the Hudson Valley and Connecticut.

BUSES

Every corner of The Bronx is accessible by bus, and it’s the best way to travel east-west across the borough. The Bronx has three Select Bus Service (SBS) routes, the Bx12 SBS serving Fordham Road and Pelham Parkway, the Bx41 SBS, serving Webster  Avenue, and the Bx6, servicing the south Bronx crosstown. All SBS buses require payment before boarding; keep the receipt from the ticket vending machine as proof-of-payment for the duration of your trip.

AIRPORTS

Of the three major airports in the New York City area, The Bronx is closest to LaGuardia Airport, just across the East River. The best way to get there by public transportation is to travel by subway or Metro-North into Manhattan and transfer at 125th street to the M60 SBS. panynj.gov/airports/laguardia.html

To get to John F. Kennedy International Airport, travel by subway into Manhattan and transfer to a Jamaica Center (Queens)-bound E train. At Sutphin Blvd-Archer Ave-JFK Airport, transfer to the AirTrain for service to all terminals. panynj.gov/airports/jfk.html

For service to Newark Liberty International Airport, travel to Penn Station and board a New Jersey Transit train with service to the airport on the Northeast Corridor Line or the North Jersey Coast Line. panynj.gov/airports/newark-liberty.html

Westchester County Airport has many transport options – by auto, taxis and limousines, to the Bee-Line bus system with connections from the MTA Metro-North Railroad.
