This New York Times acclaimed restaurant located in our very own borough has some of the city’s best authentic Mexican food. Mexicocina Mezcaleria has been serving the South Bronx since 2008, and doesn’t intend to stop anytime soon. Antonio Vilchis, the owner, talks about his business with a sense of pride you can also taste in his food, saying he “worked very hard to save money to open up Mexicocina Mezcaleria.”
With its bright, traditional decor, the restaurant offers an authentic, inviting experience. Loyal patrons describe Mexicocina’s vibe as cozy, refined, and family-friendly. Vilchis’ hard work certainly paid off, as he created a space that can be used to gather friends and family for private parties, or have a more intimate dinner with a small group. The Bronx Tourism Council even held an event there ahead of Savor the Bronx restaurant week, which Mexicocina Mezcaleria participated in.
Mexicocina delivers a broad menu that spans from classic Mexican fare like Birria, Huaraches Con Carne, Taco de Chorizo, and Tilapia a la Mexicana to dishes with creative twists like their Birria Ramen that can attest to their successful creativity, providing a rich, delicious broth.
“Their tacos are simply divine – the tortillas are handmade to perfection, and the fillings are bursting with flavor,” one online reviewer said. “Whether you're a seasoned taco connoisseur or a newcomer to Mexican food, you'll be blown away by the quality and authenticity of their dishes.”
Specializing in Mezcal, an authentic Mexican alcohol derived from the agave plant, Mexicocina Mezcaleria has an extensive mixed drink list available. Their cocktails offer a refreshing component to your meal. Favorites include The Bronx, El Oaxaca, and their Margarita Mexicocina. They also offer Sangria and Margarita pitchers. Mexicocina’s non-alcoholic beverages don’t disappoint either, with classics like Agua de sandia, a vibrant watermelon drink, and Pina Coladas.
Rooted in spreading Mexico’s delicious flavors, their authenticity and friendliness is what puts them on the map and makes them a Bronx staple.
“I love to talk to people. We have authentic Mexican dishes,” Vilchis said. “I just want to say thank you to the Bronx for your support.”
Mexicocina also offers catering services for your next event. Whether it's a corporate function, wedding reception, or birthday party, their online order form makes the process easy and accessible. Visit their website to view their options.
