BXploration: Sankofa Haus

At 2422 Third Avenue in the heart of The Bronx, Sankofa Haus has become a vibrant hub for celebration, creativity and connection. Founded by DJ Spynfo, the multi-use social space serves as home for everything from weddings and bar mitzvahs to yoga classes, panel discussions and staff retreats. More than just a venue, Sankofa Haus is a reflection of its founder’s vision to nurture community and create meaningful experiences.

Inspired by his travels to Africa and Brazil, as well as the book “The Miseducation of the Negro” by Carter G. Woodson and the documentary “How to Change Your Mind” by Michael Pollan, DJ Spynfo sought to build a place rooted in alignment, love and cultural pride.

“If we want to see changes in our community, we have to adopt practices that allow us to align with our true self,” DJ Spynfo said. “We are the architect of our reality.”

What makes Sankofa Haus so unique is not only their attention to detail and versatility in their services, but their roots in the community.

“We have held multiple prom drives which provided suits, shoes and dresses for underserved kids in the Bronx,” he said. “We consider ourselves the catalyst that nurtures the innate connection between our community and its residents. Our goal is to not just host amazing events, but to foster better relationships between residents of the same neighborhood … The Sankofa symbolizes our people’s quest for knowledge, and the quest is based on critical examination, and intelligent and patient investigation. We must learn from the past in order to create a better future. Sankofa embodies the soul of our establishment. We must all ‘go back and get it’.”

Providing 3 separate rooms for your event, access to A/V Equipment, coat check, handicap accessibility, a prep kitchen and Wi-Fi, Sankofa Haus is prepared for anything. With a variety of events under their belt, they’ve left a diverse range of customers pleased.
